All You Need To Know About Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is an exfoliating treatment in which a dermatologist gets rid of unwanted peach fuzz and dead skin on your face with the use of a scalpel. People also refer to it as shaving your face, although it does have numerous benefits relating to skincare. This treatment has become widely popular due to the benefits of antiaging, product penetration, brighter complexion, and makeup application. It removes a layer of buildup on the skin, allowing skin care products to absorb better and show results.

BEAUTY MYTH: “Shaving your hair causes it to grow back faster” - this has proven to be false and has scared women to not shave fearing that the hair will just come back more apparent and dark on the face.

Dermaplaning isn’t just a one-step process. You want to make sure you are using the correct products before and after the treatment as well. The essentials would be a cleanser, toner, cotton pads, hair tie/hairband, and a blade. It is best to cleanse your face with an oil-free, mild cleanser before the blade touches your skin. You should also take a cotton pad and apply toner to your face to draw out all the oil from the skin. You want to use the blade on dry skin at a 45-degree angle.

Some products we recommend are the cleansers, gels, and creams from the Artistry Hydra-V™ collection and the Artistry™ Vitamin C serum with HA. The Hydra-V™ products help reveal a clean complexion and leave the skin feeling soft and refreshed. It contains an oat extract and special conditioning agent that self-adjusts for all skin types. The Vitamin C serum with HA targets wrinkles and protects the skin from harmful antioxidants while promoting elasticity renewal. This product repairs the skin within 4 weeks and gets rid of the appearance of any fine lines and wrinkles.

Some tips to remember is to always shave in a downward motion to avoid any ingrown hair and be extremely careful when using the blade near the eye area which has very delicate skin. Avoid going near your eyes with the blade and make sure to follow the correct skincare steps after dermaplaning. You want to make sure to cleanse your face after the treatment and a couple of sprays of rose water are recommended to keep your skin feeling soft and fresh!
