Meet one of our South Asian Bridez: Kanika Jain

Kanika on her wedding day.

Meet Kanika! We had the pleasure of getting to do Kanika’s hair and makeup for her big day! Her wedding took place at the Imperia in Somerset, NJ in an elegant ballroom setting. We also got the pleasure to interview Kanika so she can talk us through her wedding looks, her venue, and what she did to prepare for her big day!

Q: Talk to me about your wedding day look. Was there something in particular that you did or did not want?

Kanika explained that she does not wear makeup on a daily basis, so it was important that she did not get a full or heavy makeup look. She wanted to have a more natural look and explained that she was going for a “no makeup, makeup look.” Kanika noted that Bhargavi did an excellent job at understanding what she wanted out of her wedding day glam. Kanika wanted a softer more glowy look for her day time look, and she wanted a more heavy look for the evening time by choosing a smokey eye.

Q: Was it important that your glam tied into what you were wearing?

Definitely! In particular, her hair was something that she really prioritized matching her outfit. As a South Asian bride, she went for a more traditional look by choose a long, decorated braid. This is one of the most common hairstyles for South Asian brides on their wedding day. In the evening, she wore a glittery dress so she wanted a more Bollywood wave hairstyle.

Q: What made you choose your wedding venue?

Kanika got married at the Imperia in Somerset, NJ. She really wanted a ballroom wedding and it met the needs of her and her husband! She was able to utilize the space extremely well and had the whole building to themselves all day!

Q: Did the venue or scenery factor into the glam that you chose?

Kanika was able to match her glam looks with the decorations in the venue that she chose. During the day, there were flowers throughout her venue and she matched that by choosing a softer look. At night, she went for a more elegant and royal look.

Q: Leading up to your wedding day, was there something in particular that you did differently in your hair or skin routine that helped better prepare you for your glam?

“Yes! I am a huge skin care junkie!” Kanika explained that having good skin creates for a really good base for your makeup look. She leaned toward skin care that focused on hydrating your skin in order for your makeup to go on seamlessly. She also got her face dermaplained prior to her wedding day to allow her skin to have an even smoother base. In regard to her hair, she stated that she grew out her hair for two years prior to her wedding. Having longer hair allowed for her to be able to do the hair looks that she wanted. It also made her hair easier to work with without the addition of numerous heavy extension pieces.

Q: What is one tip that you would give someone that is looking to book hair and makeup for their wedding day?

Do your research! See if the artist that you are looking at does the kind of makeup looks that you are looking for. Also, know your style. Be able to acknowledge what you are comfortable with. Lastly, do a makeup trial. Doing a trial allows you to get a chance to see what you do or don’t like in glam.

Q: What made you choose Cinderella Bridez for your wedding day?

Kanika has friends that previously used Cinderella Bridez for their wedding day and she remembered thinking “that is the best hair and makeup I’ve ever seen.” Kanika did not research other hair/makeup artists because she knew she was set on using Cinderella Bridez.
