Destination Wedding Troubles

Destination Weddings are off the rails right now! From their exotic locations to their beautiful oceans, they may have everything you dreamed of while getting married! I mean what else screams a perfect wedding like a perfect destination does? As fun as this sounds, not everything may go peachy and fun. Imagine yourself standing with the love of your life in front of you and you’re smiling and everything is perfect. Nothing can ruin such a perfect day! Wait, is that foundation and concealer separating from your skin? Omg wait and is your mascara smudging? Oh no this sounds like the perfect way to ruin your perfect moment. Hot temperatures and high humidity levels can cause your applied makeup to melt, smudge or fade. But again, Don’t worry! I will show you the correct techniques and products that you can use to avoid this from happening.

Prep that Skin!

The number one thing to a perfect flawless makeup is that skin prep! Invest in a good skincare routine. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin daily to keep it hydrated and healthy. By doing this you can remove dead skin tones and lock in your skin for a smooth canvas for a perfect makeup application! For a good starter skincare routine, I recommend the Elf SKIN Hydrated After Skincare Mini kit. It comes with eye and face cream, booster drops, cleansing balm and a daily cleanser. Practicing a good skincare routine months before your wedding day can ensure that your skin is adhered to the products and you can test out which products best match your skin.

Consider Primer being your Best Friend

Primer is your best friend when it comes to applying your makeup for any type of event. This will make sure your makeup sticks to your skin and makes sure it doesn't move anywhere. Opt in for a mattifying primer to control oil and reduce the shine, or a hydrating primer to keep your skin hydrated in dry climates. When applying primer, make sure to only apply a thin layer all over your face and focus on areas that are prone to being oily. This can be in your T-zone or under eyes. This will not only hold your makeup but will create a smooth base for your foundation and help your makeup last longer in hot weather. I recommend looking into the MILK Hydro Grip Primer or the Elf Power Grip Primer.

Foundation

Foundation is the next crucial key to a flawless makeup look. When choosing a foundation, you want to look for a formula that can achieve a long lasting and natural looking finish that will withhold in hot and humid conditions. Keep a lookout for oil free or water based foundations. Also, choose one suitable for your skin type whether that’s oily, combination, dry or normal. Make sure it is still a lightweight foundation and your skin is still able to breathe and this can be best achieved by liquid or powder based formulas. Avoid a heavy cream or stick foundation as this can cause your face to look cakey and dry. When applying the foundation, use a damp sponge and blend it seamlessly into your skin.

Concealer

Concealer is the next step to the makeup application process and will cover those blemishes, dark circles and other imperfections. Look for a lightweight, long lasting concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin tone to enhance those features and brighten up your look. When applying, apply a small amount of concealer with a precision brush and make sure to blend seamlessly into the skin. Once you have that blended, apply translucent powder over the areas where you have concealed with a makeup brush or powder puff to avoid creasing or smudging. This will be the key to hold your makeup in place.

Powder Perfection:

Setting powder is a key step in any makeup routine especially destination weddings taking place where it is hot and humid. When choosing a translucent powder, choose one that will mattify your skin without being too heavy. When applying, lightly dust the powder over your face and try to focus on the areas that are more likely to shine. Using powder will reduce the amount of shine from your face so make sure you have a gentle hand for that. If the powder is overused, this may result in your makeup looking cakey and have too much build up. I recommend the Laura Merica translucent powder or the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder.

Waterproof Me Please!

Waterproof formulas are crucial for any kind of makeup look. And on your wedding day, you want to pick a formula where you can cry and still slay that eye look! You can opt for a waterproof mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow primers to prevent smudging, smearing or fading throughout your wedding day. For those who want to pull off the perfect eyeshadow look, opt in for a long wearing cream/primer for your eyelids so it stays put. Also, opt in for a cream or gel formula for eyeshadow instead of the typical powder because they tend to crease or fade in hot weather.

Luscious Lashes

False lashes can be tricky. Sometimes they won’t stick or sometimes throughout the day, the glue tends to dry out and they start to lift up. Opt for individual lashes or extensions for a more natural looking makeup look. If you prefer the lash strips, then choose a waterproof adhesive to make sure these stripes don’t go anywhere! When applying, place them close to the lash line to prevent lifting or peeling. If Interested in lash strips, I recommend checking out Cinderella Bridez Lashes!

Lipstick Longevity

Choosing the right lipstick formula is a key essential for maintaining a flawless bridal pout in hot weather and humidity. Opt in long-wearing liquid lipsticks or lip stains that will stay put even with the endless kisses, sips and smiles without smudging or transferring onto close. Before putting anything on your lips, gently exfoliate to remove any dry skin. Then you can go ahead and apply a hydrating lip balm to keep them smooth and soft. When applying a lip liner and a lipstick, outline your lips with a lip liner in a matching shade to prevent feathering and define your lip shape.

Finishing Touches

You are almost done! Setting your makeup is the final touch for a perfect bridal look. Finish off your look with a few spritzes of setting spray. Opt in for a long lasting, mattifying formula that will set your makeup and keep it looking fresh all day and night.
